Kentucky – what a fun track. The crowd was great and the autograph session we did on Friday night was a blast too. We had a rough afternoon in practice on Friday, just one of those days. The Texaco/Havoline team busted their tails all day and we thought we were going to be pretty good come the race Saturday night when it was all said and done. We had an early qualifying draw, and in the heat of the day that’s not really a good thing. The track is slower and greasy the hotter it is. The car didn’t feel too bad, a tick free in the center of the turn and I thought we would have run a better lap than we did.

When the race started David Stremme and I gained a few spots and had a fun little race of our own going on. I got hung up in traffic cause we were tight off the turn and ended up going a lap down. Brad and the boys had a good strategy with pit road, and we were able to get the lucky dog and get back on the lead lap. With about 25 to go we were in a good position to run somewhere between 12th and 15th (in my opinion) but we had some trouble on pit road. And nothing that was the doing of our guys, they were solid all night on the stops again.

A lapped car was pitted in front of us, and we came down to get our last set of tires with 15 laps or so to go. When I swung around that car trying to get into my stall, their tire carrier swung a little wide and the tire he had in his hands bounced off our LF fender. When the green came back out we were digging really hard to get back into the top 15. We almost got there…we were on the outside of a couple cars through turns 3 and 4, and I got the car a little too high and it stepped out on me. I was sideways enough where we should have crashed, but some how we got lucky and we didn’t spin. I have no idea how we saved it, I’ve never been in a car that sideways for that long and not hit anything, but I’d rather be lucky then good sometimes.

21st place finish. We’re better than that, and we’ll start finishing better than that. Even when all the Cup guys aren’t in the Busch races, they’re still really tough to run well in. Seems like we’re all going the same speed. But, if this was easy then it wouldn’t be any fun.

Also, on a side note, I’m not running the truck race this weekend in Milwaukee . We were originally slated to run it in the Bobby Hamilton Racing Open Joist Dodge truck, but Mike Bliss is the main driver of the truck now and he’s not running the Cup race in Sonoma . So, he was available for the truck race and naturally he’ll run it and hopefully get another top 5 finish.

We’ll be back in the truck at Memphis the week following Milwaukee.

Never expected Nashville to be so cold in April, but oh my… It was freezing! The guys on the team were teasing me because I found a corner in the hauler and pretty much didn’t move all weekend. I had my book and magazines, so I was set. The most time I spent outside was during the race, but I made sure to be bundled up!

It was so good to see Kevin back in his element – doing what he loves again. Everything seemed to fall right in sync with the crew, Kevin, basically everything. It was a great weekend. I know that Kevin was bummed about the fender issue on the first lap – that really caused trouble for them the whole rest of the race. The guys worked so hard at getting the fender back into shape and keep Kevin in good track position. Considering the damage, a comeback to 18th was fantastic, I think.

So now we’re back to several weeks of Kevin traveling while Tucker and I hang out at home. I think it might be nice for a while since we’ve been so busy lately – Bristol , Seattle , Nashville … I don’t know how Kevin does it every single weekend. I’m worn out after three in a row! Still, I can’t wait for his next race!

Take care!
