Well it’s Sunday night right after the season opening Daytona Busch race, and I just got home to Mandi and Tucker. What a long week. We went down to the beach on Monday evening, and as much fun as it is, it’s also tough being away from home for that long.
Daytona is a drawn out week, at least for me. The team guys have tech inspection on Tuesday all day, so they’re working hard but Reed and I just sort of hung out and walked around. Wednesday was about an hour of practice, Thursday was the same, qualified on Friday, and of course the race on Saturday. The only thing for the other Texaco/Havoline driver to do is just support the guys, and see what’s happening with the other Chip Ganassi Racing w/ Felix Sabates teams. I had a NASCAR photo shoot on Tuesday, and then did a shoot for ESPN2.
Brad and the guys gave Juan a great race car for the race. He started off pretty tight, but went from 16th to 4th in a hurry until we dropped a valve. The same thing happened to Reed later in the race so something goofy was going on with the engines, which is rare with us. Our motor shop does a great job so it was surprising that both cars had a little bit of trouble.
We head out to California next week, and hopefully Juan can have a great run and we can get the season off to a better start!

Well, race season has officially began! Wahoo, right? Sort of... We still have to wait until April before Kevin's season officially starts. No complaints though because we know how lucky we are for Kevin to be in the position he's in. It doesn't really matter whether he has 8 races or 80. So many drivers dream of being part of a team like Ganassi and Kevin and I both recognize that.
I'm also very excited about our trip back home at the end of March. Kevin will always take any opportunity he has to race especially if it's at his home track, Evergreen Speedway. The first race I ever went to was at Evergreen when Kevin and I began dating in 1996. Wow, that was a long time ago. I remember going with a bunch of our friends (well the ones that didn't work on the car) and sitting in the stands. The closest thing to that kind of racing I'd ever seen before were the hydroplane races on Lake Washington during SeaFair. I went to Evergreen Speedway every Saturday that Summer to watch Kevin race. I think I finally got to go in the pits in 1997. Kevin's mom even made me a crew shirt! Good times, good times... My how things have changed. :)
Take care! Hope to see you at the races!
