Well, here’s the new site. Looks pretty sporty huh? My web guy/close friend of the last 7 years Justin Fiedler put it all together and I’m really proud of his hard work. We seem to do two site redesigns a year (or it feels like it) and this is far and away my favorite.
Daytona testing has started, and I went down for 3 days to spot for David Stremme. I always enjoy going down there and doing that. David will be in the middle of a pack, and will be explaining to me what he’s doing in the car. It helps me learn even though I’m not in the driver’s seat. It just goes to show you how well the CGR team mates work together.
As this new Kevin’s Corner is put online with the new site, I’ll be in Daytona testing the 41 Busch car as Reed has to be back in Concord for Media Day. As of right now, I’m going to test the 42 car in the AM single car sessions and Juan will do the afternoon drafting. Which brings me to the subject of getting the incredible opportunity to drive the Texaco/Havoline Dodge in 8 races this year. Anyone who knows me knows that Davey Allison was my favorite driver growing up (other than my dad, Ken) and Mandi and I rent a home from Ernie Irvan’s sister Tracy. Both were former Texaco/Havoline drivers so it’s pretty cool how it all works out and I get the opportunity to put on a uniform with a big red star on the front of it. There’s so much history with the sponsor in the sport, it’s pretty cool be involved in. Chip and Felix have given me a great opportunity with the push of Lorin Ranier, and it’s a good feeling to have that amount of trust in you from the guys you work for.
First race is April at Nashville, and it can’t get here soon enough!

Winter Testing
Well, this is my first blog – ever. Kevin asked me to share my thoughts on what the supposed “off-season” is like from a wife’s perspective. After the 2006 season ended, Kevin and I had a lot of time to spend together. Hanging out with friends, going to movies and lots of Christmas shopping. We were able to spend the holiday in Seattle , but as soon as we flew back the “Winter Testing” season began. I mean, almost immediately. We got back to Charlotte on Friday and Kevin left the following Monday afternoon. He was gone for three days, but then left again a week later, gone for three more days, home for one, gone for six… You get the picture. It’s hard for me to even keep up with his schedule. I’m pretty sure I’ve asked him at least a dozen times, “Okay, so when are you coming home again?” I’ve started keeping my own day planner, just so I can try to keep track of his schedule. I work during the week, so that makes it a little easier, but I still hate being home alone. Thank goodness for our dog Tucker! Without him I’m pretty sure I would go a little crazy! |
