Another top 10 for the Texaco/Havoline team – and it feels just as good as the first one. Sorry I didn’t blog after my 1st career top 10 last week in Gateway, it was a busy week with some testing and spending time with Mandi and Tucker.
Gateway rocked. We had a great car from the get go, and ran in the top 10 I think all but 20 or so laps of the race. Brian and the boys worked their tails off, and Jason did a great job up top as my eyes in the sky to have a good run. The incident with Carl was a bad deal, but we recovered to have a good finish. Coming from 14th to 7th in the last few laps was a lot of fun.
ORP also rocked. We unloaded and were in the top 10 on the chart right away. We tinkered with the car, and figured if we could have it a little free at the end of practice, it would be perfect for the race. I figured we could have qualified in the top 10…but, that didn’t happen. After final practice we found an issue with the motor and we had to change it. So, according to the rules we’d have to start last.
So in qualifying, since we already had our pit stall per Gateway qualifying, we just went out to shake the car down and make sure all was good. We were in race trim. No tape on the nose, no rounds of wedge or track bar adjustments, and close to race pressures.
When we started the race, the car was really free and to be honest I was worried. Something didn’t feel right and I couldn’t even breathe on the throttle with out the car wanting to spin out. But, first stop Brian made a great change and it was all up hill from there. We passed a ton of cars (second most according to NASCAR loop data) and improved our starting position the most out of any car. When the green dropped we were actually 41st even though officially we started 30th. I had a blast coming through the field, and the car is in good shape. Everyone raced us clean, and we escaped a few close calls going 3 wide a few times.
Can’t wait for Memphis in October!

I know that I've been behind on my updates and I apologize, so here you go...
Life just keeps getting busier and busier for us. With the added CTS races in the #4 truck for Bobby Hamilton Racing he's been gone every weekend for the last couple of months. I'm definitely not complaining though - bring on more races anytime! I've only missed one race this year - Kentucky a couple of weeks ago. That was tough, but my good friend Jessica came over and watched it on TV with me. It's never easy to be at home while he's racing, but having friends around makes it a lot better, so "Thanks Jess!"
Milwaukee was a blast last weekend. Kevin's birthday was that Friday and the garage closed early, so we were able to go to a Brewers baseball game with some of the guys from the team. We had a great time and they won! Saturday was really busy since it was a one day show - practice early, qualifying and then the race. It sure makes for a long day, especially since I had an early morning flight back to Charlotte Sunday morning. Ughhh, but I made it thank goodness!
Well we're off to Memphis this weekend and I'm really excited. Maybe we'll even have some extra time to check out the city!
P.S. I also want to thank everyone that has sent out their congratulations and well wishes since we announced that we're expecting. It means so much to us and we'll be sure to keep everyone updated along the way!
