Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates Nationwide Series driver Kevin Hamlin will make his first start in a NASCAR Late Model Stock at Caraway Speedway in Sophia, NC this weekend driving the #13 Sommer Motorsports Dodge. This will mark the first time that the Cody Sommer owned machine has hit the track as the car is being built brand new for the Bailey’s 300 being run at Martinsville Speedway Sunday, September 28th.
“I’m really excited to finally hit the track with Cody’s car,” Hamlin said. “We’ve been working pretty hard on it for the last few months, and Caraway will be a great shake down session for Martinsville . I’ve only been on the track once, last season, testing a Craftsman Truck with Dario Franchitti when he signed on last year. It’s a great little race track with a lot of history, so it’ll be pretty cool to get out there and race.”

Hamlin, also a test driver for Chip Ganassi Racing works with owner/crew chief Cody Sommer on the Ganassi test team.

“Cody and I are close friends, and we work together about every week at Cup tests. It’s been a fun project, and a lot of people from the Ganassi test stable have lended a hand getting the car ready for this week and Martinsville . These late model stocks are a little different than the NASCAR Northwest Series cars I drove back in Washington before moving to North Carolina , too. We’ve got a lot of work to do before Saturday, but that’s part of the fun of late model racing.”

Hamlin will be sponsored by South Point Resort, RMCBGFC, Carolina Coast Clothing, Marlowe Racing Chassis, and Joe’s Racing Products.

Gates open at 4:00 pm with racing beginning at 8:00 pm at Caraway Speedway.
