Hamlin Multitasking in Kentucky and Michigan

Kevin Hamlin will be pulling double duty this weekend at Kentucky and Michigan, but in a different way than that of his NASCAR counterparts. Not only will Hamlin’s name scroll past twice on the ribbon during NASCAR Nationwide Series practice Friday at Kentucky, but the driver will also head to the spotter’s stand for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in Michigan on Sunday. Hamlin will practice in two different Nationwide Series cars on Friday at Kentucky Speedway when the series heads to the Blue Grass State for the Meijer 300 Presented by Ritz.
Juggling practice time in two different Nationwide Series cars at Kentucky Speedway on Friday, Hamlin will pilot the No. 34 Chevrolet for Front Row Motorsports as well as the No. 49 Chevrolet for Jay Robinson Racing. Although Tony Raines will drive the No. 34 in the Nationwide Series race on Saturday, he will be in Michigan for NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice and qualifying and unable to be in Kentucky for practice.

Although already committed to practice the No. 34 for Front Row Motorsports, Hamlin was asked by Jay Robinson Racing to take over driving duties in the No. 49 Chevrolet for Saturday’s Meijer 300 Presented by Ritz. The No. 49, owned by Jay Robinson, currently stands 41st in owner points and must qualify on time to enter the race.

Hamlin’s race duties don’t end with the checkered flag in Kentucky. Immediately following the Nationwide Series Meijer 300 Presented by Ritz, Hamlin will travel to Brooklyn, Michigan to spot for Front Row Motorsports driver John Andretti for Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series LifeLock 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

The 29 year old driver is determined to find a full time position as a NASCAR driver and in that pursuit is taking every opportunity offered to him to drive, even if it does result in extra effort. In addition to his race weekend duties, Hamlin is a test driver for Earnhardt Ganassi Racing.

Practice for the Meijer 300 Presented by Ritz will start at 5 p.m. ET with the second session broadcast live at 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2. Qualifying for the 200 lap race will begin at 5 p.m., and live coverage of the 13th race of the NASCAR Nationwide Series season will begin at 8 p.m. ET. Both will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
